CHALLENGE TO THE TEACHER

Welcome to The DuPont Challenge, one of the foremost student science and technology prize programs in the United States and Canada.

Teachers Win, Too

The support you give your students is key to the Science Essay Awards Program’s success. An educator’s enthusiastic guidance inspires a student’s curiosity and confidence and provides the motivation for original research and expression.

In recognition of this important contribution, the sponsoring science and English teachers of the First Place winners will each receive a $500 Educational Award and an expense-paid trip together with his or her student to Space Center Houston in spring 2005. Plus, the sponsoring science teachers will receive an expense-paid trip to the 2006 NSTA conference in Anaheim, California.

Sponsoring science teachers of the four finalists in each division will receive a $250 Educational Award.

Perform is a joint initiative of Theatre Nova Scotia, Dance Association of Nova Scotia (DANS), and Nova Scotia Choral Federation (NSCF) which brings together practising performing Artists with teachers and students in public and private schools across Nova Scotia. Its primary goal is to enhance learning by involving Artists in the delivery of Drama, Music, and Dance curricula.

Through Perform ! students and teachers have opportunities to work with professional actors, dancers, and choral musicians to explore and develop their own skills and creativity. Participation is open to all grade levels and can involve learning not only in the performing arts but also learning through the performing arts in other subject areas such as English, History, and Social Sciences.

Each school has up to 18 hours of Perform time. The school may choose from these activities:

Have 4 separate activities of a half day (3 hrs) each with different Artists.

4 half day activities as part of a series with a single Artist throughout.

One full day activity with two Artists.

Any combination of activity and Artist may be considered.

Payment - 50/50 :

The school and the program share the Artist's fee equally. The fee for a visiting Artist is $105 per half day (3 hours) and $210 for a full day (6 hours).

So, the school pays $52.50 to have an Artist visit for a half day, and $105 for a full day.
